1888 LLC. is more than a brand, it marks the year that the first Black-Owned Bank was founded by Reverend William Washington Brown in Richmond, Virginia.
The Savings Bank of the Grand Fountain United Order of True Reformers was the start to a new life of wealth-building for the African-American community. This was a huge leap for African-Americans after being freed from hundreds of years of slavery. The savings bank became the largest and most successful black business enterprise in the United States from 1888 to 1910.
The vision of The Savings Bank of the Grand Fountain United Order of True Reformers was to cultivate growing black communities and to offer services ranging from a savings bank, a real estate company, a retirement home, and a youth division that taught discipline, thrift, and business skills.
Through this establishment, 1888 LLC. has become a brand that represents a proud legacy of economic empowerment, entrepreneurship, and business enterprises.
This legacy is shown by investing in historically underrepresented businesses and institutions, historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), and a variety of ventures ranging from independent startups to global competitiveness.
